Crunchy Tempura Roll


Ra Sushi who? Why not bring it to your home? Get a deep fryer and you're set! My parents don't eat sushi because they have in their mind that it's raw, well I don't eat raw sushi so yeah....but I do fry it. Believe it or not they loved it! Not a completely easy task until you're done LOL, but it was sooooo worth it and the materials are dirt cheap. Shopped at one of my favorite shopping marts, Hong Kong Market and purchased these materials:

1) Sushi Mat
2) Nori
3) Chopsticks
4) Sticky or Sushi Rice
5) Nishimi
6) Shrimp
7) Avocado
8) Panko Bread Crumbs
9) Tempura Batter
10) Mayo or Cream Cheese
11) Rice Vinegar (this give the sushi flavor in the rice)

Preparation took about 30 minutes, 15 of it was to cook the rice which you must babysit, it is nothing like the traditional parboiled rice. The consistency of the rice is very sticky so a small bowl of water needs to be your friend while preparing it. Before you get in the nitty gritty, you do need a table of rice vinegar in the rice depending on how much you used. I used 1 cup of rice because I was the only one eating it before my parents shared with me, so a table of rice vinegar folded in the rice will give it its taste. If you need to, gradually add a little more but honestly you wont need that much. Wet the palm of your hands to keep the rice from sticking to your hands but only on the coarse side of the nori sheet. I was being greedy and impatient with the rice, so I let it cool for not that long and began prepping my sushi smh LOL. Don't do what I did, COMPLETELY let the rice cool so the nori sheet doesn't cringe. It still turned out lovely though! Keep your sushi mat in a Ziploc bag as well to keep the mat clean while rolling and tucking your sushi roll. Need directions on how to roll sushi it's super easy, just google, youtube, or pinterest.
